Magnús Ragnarsson

b. 1975

Magnús Ragnarsson studied at the Reykjavík College of Music, the National School of Church Music and the Gothenburg Music Academy in Sweden, specialising in organ, piano, singing and conducting. Following graduation, he further studied choral conducting with Stefan Parkman at Uppsala University.

Magnús is chorus director at the Icelandic opera, conductor for the Philharmonic choir of Iceland and organist at Langholtskirkja in Reykjavík where he conducts Kór Langholtskirkju. He also teaches choral conducting at the Iceland Academy of the Arts and the National School of Church Music. He has conducted children's as well as chamber operas and ballets, worked with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, SinfoniaNord and the Lutosławski Philharmonic Orchestra in Wrocław, Poland. In 2014, he was nominated for the Icelandic music awards for his performance of Ein Deutsches Requiem by Brahms with the Philharmonic choir, and most recently for a recording of Icelandic folk songs. With his choirs, he has won awards in Florilège Vocal de Tours, the Béla Bartók International Choir Competition, the Florence Choir Competition and Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod.
