The title Rotundum was borrowed from the alchemists, who sometimes used the word to describe a certain consolidation or purification that took place in their test tubes. Some say the alchemists were not merely searching for gold, but that their quest — and their longing to understand the soul— gradually became one and the same. In the end, matter was the same as spirit, and gold the same as inner peace
