Friðrik Örn Sigþórsson

b. 1996

Composer and bassist Friðrik Örn Sigþórsson was born in Reykjavík in 1996 but grew up largely in Stykkishólmur. He began his studies at the FÍH Music School in 2017 but soon transferred to MÍT (Reykjavík College of Music), where he studied bass performance alongside supplementary studies in rhythmic vocal performance.

From his teenage years, Friðrik has been an active songwriter and lyricist for a variety of projects. At MÍT, he had the opportunity to explore arranging and to further develop his compositions. This led him to enroll in the composition program at the Iceland University of the Arts following his graduation in 2023, where he is expected to graduate in the spring of 2026. His main composition teachers are Páll Ragnar Pálsson and Bergrún Snæbjörnsdóttir. During his studies, Friðrik’s work has moved toward more experimental music and is characterized by his curiosity about the sonic possibilities of acoustic instruments.

Friðrik is an active bassist in the Icelandic music scene, performing across a wide range of styles. He is a member of rock band Hylur, Kári Egils’ band, progressive rock group Project Reykjavík, and Matthías Helgi Sigurðarson’s jazz trio. In addition, he has performed with numerous artists from across the Icelandic music scene, including Jónfrí, Frumburður, Rebekka Blöndal, and Ari Árelíus.
