Eyþór Ingi Jónsson

Eyþór Ingi Jónsson lauk kantorsprófi frá Tónskóla Þjóðkirkjunnar árið 1998, undir leiðsögn Harðar Áskelssonar, Fríðu Lárusdóttur o.fl. Á árunum 1999-2007 nam hann við Tónlistarháskólann í Piteå í Svíþjóð, fyrst við kirkjutónlistardeild og síðar við konsertorganistadeild. Aðal orgelkennari hans var prof. Hans-Ola Ericsson. Kórstjórnarprófessorinn var Erik Westberg.

Hann hefur sótt meistarakúrsa og einkatíma hjá mörgum af þekktustu orgelleikurum og kórstjórum samtímans. Eyþór kenndi orgelspuna, orgelleik, kórstjórn og orgelfræði við Tónskóla Þjóðkirkjunnar og Listaháskóla Íslands. Hann heldur reglulega námskeið og fyrirlestra. Hann hefur haldið hátt í 100 einleikstónleika hérlendis og erlendis. Einnig hefur hann leikið með fjölda innlendra og erlendra tónlistarmanna, bæði á tónleikum og í upptökum.

Eyþór leggur nú mikla áherslu á orgelleik og er með fjölda skipulagðra orgeltónleika á næstunni, bæði á Íslandi og í Svíþjóð. Fyrsta sólóplata Eyþórs, Septim, kom út árið 2021. Önnur orgelplata Eyþórs kemur út haustið 2025 og inniheldur hún íslensk orgelverk í bland við þýska síðbarokk- og snemmrómantíska tónlist.

Eyþór hefur bæði leikið einleik með Sinfóníuhljómsveit Norðurlands og Verkefnahljómsveit Michael Jón Clarke sem og stjórnað báðum hljómsveitunum. Hann stjórnaði líka Barokksveit Hólastiftis á meðan hún starfaði.

Eyþór starfar nú sem organisti við Akureyrarkirkju og stjórnandi kammerkórsins Hymnodia. Eyþór hefur einbeitt sér annars vegar að flutningi tónlistar frá 17. öld og hinsvegar nútímatónlistar og spuna, bæði fyrir orgel og kór. Eyþór hefur pantað og/eða frumflutt tugi tónverka eftir íslensk og erlend tónskáld. Bæði fyrir orgel og kór. Hann er einn af forkólfum Barokksmiðju Hólastiftis.

3 einkasýningar og tekið þátt í nokkrum samsýningum.

Eyþór Ingi Jónsson graduated with a Cantor’s diploma from the Church of Iceland Music School in 1998, under the guidance of Hörður Áskelsson, Fríða Lárusdóttir and others. From 1999 to 2007 he studied at the Piteå School of Music in Sweden, first in the church music department and later in the concert organist program. His main organ teacher was Prof. Hans-Ola Ericsson, and his choral conducting professor was Erik Westberg.

He has attended masterclasses and taken private lessons with many of the most renowned organists and choral conductors of our time. Eyþór has taught organ improvisation, organ performance, choral conducting, and organ studies at the Church of Iceland Music School and the Iceland University of the Arts. He regularly gives courses and lectures. He has performed close to 100 solo recitals both in Iceland and abroad, and has also collaborated with numerous Icelandic and international musicians, both in concerts and recordings.

Currently, Eyþór places strong emphasis on organ performance and has several organ recitals scheduled in the near future, both in Iceland and Sweden. His first solo album, Septim, was released in 2021. His second organ album will be released in autumn 2025 and will feature Icelandic organ works alongside late Baroque and early Romantic German music.

Eyþór has performed as a soloist with the North Iceland Symphony Orchestra and the Michael Jón Clarke Project Orchestra, and has also conducted both ensembles. He additionally conducted the Hólar Diocese Baroque Ensemble during its active years.

Eyþór currently serves as organist of Akureyri Church and conductor of the chamber choir Hymnodia. His focus is on the performance of 17th-century music on the one hand, and contemporary music and improvisation on the other, both for organ and choir. He has commissioned and/or premiered dozens of works by Icelandic and international composers, for both organ and choir. He is also one of the leading figures of the Hólar Diocese Baroque Workshop.

Eyþór was the Artist of the Year in Akureyri in 2011–2012.
Alongside his musical work, Eyþór is also an avid nature photographer. He has held three solo exhibitions and participated in several group exhibitions.
