Elín Laxdal

Elín was born in 1883. She studied at the Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen and received a scholarship from the king himself. She sang a solo part in a cantata by Sveinbjörn Sveinbjörnsson that was composed for the royal visit in 1907, and at concerts featuring works by Sveinbjörn held the following year she also sang two substantial songs by him: "Árniðinn" and "Valagilsá". The accompanist at both the royal reception and the concerts was Ásta Einarsson. Elín married Jón Laxdal, a merchant and composer in Reykjavík, and was his second wife. She died of the Spanish flu in 1918.
