Björn Gunnlaugsson
f. 1788 , d. 1876
Björn Gunnlaugsson (1788–1876) was the most notable Icelandic mathematician of the nineteenth century. Björn was the son of Gunnlaugur Magnússon, later a farmer at Bergsstöðum on Vatnsnesi, and his wife, Ólafar Björnsdóttur. Gunnlaugur had earned a good reputation for ingenious inventions and received recognition for them from the king.
