Steinn Stefánsson
b. 1908 , d. 1991
After graduating as a teacher, Steinn took up a teaching position in Seyðisfjörður. He later became principal of the town’s primary school, secondary school, and vocational school, playing an important role in their development and growth.
A pioneer in local musical life, he served as church organist, conducted the church choir, a children’s choir, and the mixed choir Bjarmi. He was also actively involved in civic affairs, serving on the town council for sixteen years and acting as a deputy member of Alþingi. Steinn approached all these activities with great enthusiasm, continually expanding his education and contributing articles to newspapers and journals.
In 1975, Steinn retired from his professional duties and moved to Reykjavík. There he wrote Skólasaga Seyðisfjarðar (The Educational History of Seyðisfjörður), published in 1989, and worked on publishing collections of songs composed by himself and members of his family. These appeared in two volumes: 12 sönglög (12 Songs), 1976 and Fjölskyldusöngvar (Family Songs), 1988.
Steinn was awarded the Order of the Falcon in 1980.
