Jacques Prévert

Jacques Prévert (1900–1977) was a French poet and screenwriter, best known for his accessible, often playful poetry and his work in French cinema. His first major poetry collection, Paroles (1946), became enormously popular and established him as one of the most widely read French poets of the twentieth century. Prévert also wrote screenplays for several celebrated films, including Marcel Carné’s Children of Paradise. Many of his poems have been set to music and continue to be performed as songs and choral works.
